Nannaal began with its founder’s enduring curiosity about India’s temples, traditions and the stories that have shaped our way of life over centuries.
A long career in management consulting brought opportunities to work with people across cultures, generations and backgrounds, and to travel extensively within India and internationally. Along the way, visits to local temples—often to places beyond the familiar—offered moments of discovery and reflection. These experiences gradually deepened a desire to understand not just the traditions themselves, but what they stood for.
A chance meeting with a renowned sculptor from a lineage of Panchaloha creators opened up a deeper appreciation of traditional vigrahas and their significance in worship. Encounters with artisans across India revealed the remarkable skill, knowledge and stories embodied in their art.
Over time, a larger concern took shape: how can traditions that have endured for centuries continue to find meaning in the lives of future generations?
The widening gap between generations threatens the continuity of traditions that have shaped Indian life for millennia. At the same time, people who wish to understand and follow these traditions often struggle to find accessible, reliable and meaningful sources of guidance.
This concern became the inspiration for Nannaal—a venture created to bridge that gap, helping people discover the meaning behind our traditions and find thoughtful ways to bring them into contemporary life.
The aim is not simply to preserve traditions unchanged, but to understand them, recognise their continuing relevance and find thoughtful ways to carry them forward. Some practices remain deeply meaningful; others may need to be re-examined as life and society evolve. What matters is understanding the thought behind our inheritance and making informed choices about how we live it.
